I am a recent graduate from the Peabody Conservatory of the Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore, MD. My main reason for relocating to the Chicago area has been to join multiple orchestras and ensembles. I have traveled all over the world performing and giving recitals including performances at Merkin Hall in New York, Millenium Park and Symphony Center in Chicago, Bela Bartok Hall in Budapest, Hungary, as well as performances in Pyongchang, South Korea, home of the 2018 Winter Olympics. For beginning students, I typically start with Hal Leonard's Essential Elements and "I Can Read Music" to get acquainted with the basic techniques of the instrument and note reading. It is always more fun to play with others, so I typically start playing duets with students as early as possible. For older and more advanced students, I begin with scales and etudes suited towards their needs, followed by a solo or concerto piece for cello, and then end the lesson with a duet or time to work on orchestral music, improvising, or any fun piece that the students request. American cellist Sarah is active as both a performer and pedagogue in New York City. She is a member of the innovative ensemble, The Orchestra Now, under the leadership of Leon Botstein. Prior to joining TON, Sarah served as principal cello of the Mannes Orchestra and the Mannes Opera Orchestra. She has also served as principal cello for the Arezzo Opera Festival (Arezzo, Italy), MACE (Mannes American Composers Ensemble), Apotheosis Opera (New York, NY), the Joffrey Ballet School (New York, NY), and has performed in Carnegie Halls Stern/Perelman Auditorium, Alice Tully Hall, Severance Hall, Civic Hall and Symphony Space, among many others. I have also spent my summers teaching at such music festivals as Luzerne Music Center, Interlochen Center for the Arts, and NYSSSA School of Orchestral Studies. My duties included teaching students aged 9-19 private lessons, coaching up to three chamber ensembles daily, conducting orchestral sectionals, and rehearsing from within the orchestra. My summer students there have been concerto competition winners, were granted opportunities to perform in the student showcase and for donor events, sat as section leaders in the orchestra, and performed in masterclass for cellists of the Philadelphia Orchestra and for the Johannes Quartet.
