When anyone first meets me, I think they will notice that I am a very energetic, outgoing, and positive person and teacher which I believe directly translates to my teaching style. I am very patient with my students, but I also push my students to achieve their greatest aspirations--whether that is merely to play a scale or to play a concerto! I am extremely empathetic to a fault and sensitive to each student's individual needs and the pace at which they want to learn. Read More

I offer the option for students to send me practice progress videos during the week so that I may comment on any questions that may arise in between lessons. I have found that this pushes students to keep a regular practice routine, and also develops their ability to self-critique and correct their own playing. I work with students to identify goals to focus on every week and develop effective, reasonable practice plans that work with their busy schedules. Read More

For beginners, I always reincorporate very crucial skills to possess with constant repetition (i.e.: intonation, posture, bow technique, finger positioning). On top of this, I build on rhythm. Many times, parts of my lessons include simply clapping, so that students get a grasp for rhythm and constantly improve upon it. In terms of classical training, for me, knowing the "feeling" of the piece is key. By building upon this feeling, I introduce different styles and different techniques that the student can learn. Moreover, apply what they have learned and perform in front of audiences will help them building confidence. Respectability is also a vital aspect of teaching. A student must be allowed to explore his or her own imagination with the guidance of the teacher. This means a teacher cannot dictate, but a guide. I would never order students to do exactly what I tell them to do. For example, students could come up with their own fingerings, bowings, or musical ideas which enables their critical thinking.
