I have been able to adapt to any student, with the goal of encouraging excitement about not just the cello, but classical music as a whole. I not only teach cello, but also incorporate music history and theory in my lessons to help excite and intrigue. With younger students I also work to incorporate what else excites and entertains them including sports, tv, and of course favorite animals. The approach, overall, is to drive toward the student's goal. When someone wants to learn how to play an instrument well enough to play in a band or orchestra, I usually consider two needs - playing music and interpreting written music. These are basic parts of education, literally easy to define by achieving pages in etude books. For the past 20 years, I've studied and performed with keyboards, guitars and woodwind instruments while exploring a very wide variety of music ranging from classical and rock to jazz and avant-garde. Expanding and sharing that knowledge with other people in a helpful and friendly manner is something that I consummately enjoy- especially if they're beginning where I once was. I like their use of multiple companion books throughout each and every level.
