Im a devoted music educator who cares about my students personal growth and development as musicians. In 2010 I graduated from Evangel University with a Bachelors of Music Education degree with a concentration in strings. I have performed all over the U.S. in my collegiate touring orchestra and even had the opportunity to go to Europe and perform there as well. I have also been selected twice to perform with the Trans Siberian Orchestra as a part of their pit orchestra and have been involved as an active musician within my community. Read More

I typically use the Applebaum String Builder method books, and supplement with solo pieces as needed. I encourage regular practice, as students who feel they are progressing and doing well tend to enjoy their instrument more. As they become more advanced, they are encouraged to start giving opinions on what they want to learn. One thing that makes my studio unique is that I don't just teach how to play an instrument, I teach my students how to practice. Read More

I believe in meeting students where they are and catering lessons to their specific learning styles. Not everyone learns everything in the exact same way. While I do teach using standard, classical repertoire more often than not, my goal as a teacher is to help my students develop a deep love and passion for music; hence, I often find it incredibly helpful to branch out into other genres! I've taught show tunes, pop, rock, and even video game music to my students. Read More

I was brought up classically trained on the Suzuki books but I am completely flexible. If you have or have heard of a set of books you like we can use that too. If you don't know how to read music we can focus part of the lesson on music theory and the rest on learning from recordings and playing by ear. Each genre has their own set of rules and depending on how strict those rules are I will be equally strict accordingly. Read More

I am a positive and encouraging instructor, and emphasize proper technique, music theory, and fundamentals through a variety of musical styles ranging from classical to popular music. My students are all ages (I once had a student start at the age of 70!) and come from a variety of backgrounds and experiences. I work with students to help them balance a practice schedule with the rest of their lives. I consider myself to be a coach and facilitator and work with my students to set realistic, achievable, but challenging goals. Read More

I earned my Associates Degree in 1984, in Music Performance, from Community College of Rhode Island. I've been playing bass guitar and double bass, professionally for over 35 years in various bands, groups, orchestras and with international stars such as Ray Charles and Andrea Bocelli. I've played in locations such as Boston, New York, Pittsburgh, Maryland, New Jersey, and as far west as Chicago an Detriot. I have performed with several classical orchestras, and as principal bassist with The Claflin Hill Symphony Orchestra. Read More

As I have previously stated, I tailor my lessons to each individual student in order to maximize their learning potential. Yes, I do usually assign one piece that will be good for them to learn even if it is not their favorite song to play, but the rest of the time I make sure that it is music they are going to enjoy. If a student loves Disney songs, then you can bet that's going to be an assignment. Read More

What does a normal practice session look like for you?
Often it is different every day. A variety of vocal warm-ups are consistently a part of the rhythm I have developed. The song choice that I practice reflect what events might be coming up or what I still need to master.
If you have a Music Degree, what is it in (Performance, Education, Musicology, Theory, Composition, etc) and why did you choose that degree?
My degree is in Music and Worship Leadership. I never intended to teach in public schools or really to teach at all. I wanted simply to lead worship in the Christian Church. However, then I discovered that teaching is an indispensable part of worship leadership. Then I gradually discovered that I love to teach and to help others achieve the musical excellence that has been engraved in me!
Do you use specific teaching methods or books? (Ex: Alfred, Bastion, Suzuki, Hal Leonard) Why did you choose them if you did?
I create resources and/or find excellent free resources on the internet for students to use, resources that match the student's learning style and are FREE! Aren't you paying enough for lessons as it is?
Have any of your students won awards or been selected for special honors? How have they succeeded?
I am only just beginning in offering private lessons now that I have graduated, but my students have been very happy so far with the instruction I have given.
What do you think is the hardest thing to master on your instrument?
I have a very hard time doing lead style guitar, such as solos and stuff. I have mastered rhythm guitar and am continuing to grow in it, but lead is far beyond what my fingers have been able to do
What musical accomplishments are you most proud of?
Starting and leading an independent band, Levi Square, which continues on to this day! Please see the links below for more information!

Why did you choose your primary instrument?
Guitar and voice are primary for me. Piano, in which I am self-taught is secondary. I also play ukulele, bass guitar, and almost any percussion except a full drum set. I can teach marching band technique as well.
When will I start to see results?
This is different for every different child, but it will usually take some time. It is worth the wait when you reach the result!
Did you have a teacher that inspired you to go into music? How did they inspire you?
I had several teachers along the way, and each inspired me in different ways. The chairman of LC's school of music inspired me to learn to lead well. My voice instructor taught me to learn better and to grow even when I think I am good enough. My theory professor taught me that when we teach we are also learning. My strings instructor encouraged me to start teaching when throughout college I never thought I could!
How do I know if my child is ready to start lessons?
How much interest are they showing in music? If the child repeatedly asks about it, they are showing that they want it!
What advice do you have about practicing effectively?
Dedication! Do not give up!
