I will always set goals that I know are within reach for my students. I want to create an environment that will help them develop a passion for music in a way in which they are comfortable, not frustrated. In my mind I am always going to put the person first that I am teaching by trying to find out what inspires them. I will then assess and change my style accordingly. Read More

I am funatic, a fun teacher who is fanatic about there instrument. The cello is the middle child between the bass and the violin and a lot like the middle child stereotypes I also think the cello doesn't get enough respect. The winning formula for me is respect for your teachers and respect for the instrument once I had that practice didn't feel like practice it felt like progress and I did all the way until I reached my goal of playing Carnegie Hall. Music has always been my passion. I try to make every lesson fun and cater the music my students learn to their taste, because I have noticed that they learn more quickly and have fun doing so when it is music they enjoy. While being classically trained in one's instrument is important, what I find to be the most important is to make sure that I am able to pass along an enthusiasm for playing music! Read More

Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it's important that each student progresses at his or her own pace. I encourage this by setting realistic goals for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a students desire to progress, and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More

No matter which instrument I give lessons on, my overall goal and desire is that the student first, has FUN, second, sees themselves progressing on their instrument, and thirdly, get to experience the joy, satisfaction and confidence one gains in playing the songs they enjoy themselves. To see smiles appear on faces of students, and hear how excited they were the first time they played a popular song they know and love well in front of some else. Read More

I'm a cellist, composer, and a passionate teacher of many instruments. I've worked with students as young as 2 and as old as 90. My students have gotten in to region, all-state, college music programs, prestigious summer festivals, and placed in national competitions. I've taught children with autism, ADHD, and dyslexia. My favorite thing about private lessons is the freedom it gives me to customize lessons to the unique learning style of every individual student. Read More

I want my students to have fun, but to also engage in very structured learning. All students must find time to practice during the week, but the parents must be a huge part of helping their child learn this new instrument. We will set weekly, realistic goals for each lesson. During the lesson, we will review the last concept that was learned, go over the lesson for the day and then create a lesson for the following week and be sure that each lesson is explained and understood. What does a normal practice session look like for you?
Often it is different every day. A variety of vocal warm-ups are consistently a part of the rhythm I have developed. The song choice that I practice reflect what events might be coming up or what I still need to master.
If you have a Music Degree, what is it in (Performance, Education, Musicology, Theory, Composition, etc) and why did you choose that degree?
My degree is in Music and Worship Leadership. I never intended to teach in public schools or really to teach at all. I wanted simply to lead worship in the Christian Church. However, then I discovered that teaching is an indispensable part of worship leadership. Then I gradually discovered that I love to teach and to help others achieve the musical excellence that has been engraved in me!
Do you use specific teaching methods or books? (Ex: Alfred, Bastion, Suzuki, Hal Leonard) Why did you choose them if you did?
I create resources and/or find excellent free resources on the internet for students to use, resources that match the student's learning style and are FREE! Aren't you paying enough for lessons as it is?
Have any of your students won awards or been selected for special honors? How have they succeeded?
I am only just beginning in offering private lessons now that I have graduated, but my students have been very happy so far with the instruction I have given.
What do you think is the hardest thing to master on your instrument?
I have a very hard time doing lead style guitar, such as solos and stuff. I have mastered rhythm guitar and am continuing to grow in it, but lead is far beyond what my fingers have been able to do
What musical accomplishments are you most proud of?
Starting and leading an independent band, Levi Square, which continues on to this day! Please see the links below for more information!

Why did you choose your primary instrument?
Guitar and voice are primary for me. Piano, in which I am self-taught is secondary. I also play ukulele, bass guitar, and almost any percussion except a full drum set. I can teach marching band technique as well.
When will I start to see results?
This is different for every different child, but it will usually take some time. It is worth the wait when you reach the result!
Did you have a teacher that inspired you to go into music? How did they inspire you?
I had several teachers along the way, and each inspired me in different ways. The chairman of LC's school of music inspired me to learn to lead well. My voice instructor taught me to learn better and to grow even when I think I am good enough. My theory professor taught me that when we teach we are also learning. My strings instructor encouraged me to start teaching when throughout college I never thought I could!
How do I know if my child is ready to start lessons?
How much interest are they showing in music? If the child repeatedly asks about it, they are showing that they want it!
What advice do you have about practicing effectively?
Dedication! Do not give up!
