Especially on piano and keyboards, I have found that combining classical music and learning from books with learning music that students enjoy listening to on their own can revolutionize how students learn and enjoy their instrument. I also work with my students to learn their instrument and the necessary music theory concepts by writing their own melodies and small songs, so that students can feel creative while learning another method of processing the world around them. I am a dedicated musician who loves music and likes to teach and share the things I know to others. I graduated from Galileo University in 2007 and I was a formal member of the National Symphony of Guatemala. I studied in the National Conservatory of Music of Guatemala and I began my teaching experience there for a few years as assistant professor. I lived in Rockford Illinois for 4 years and I moved recently to Colorado. Read More

I love seeing my students grow and make progress toward their goals. Every student is an individual and learns differently, so I strive to develop exercises and practice approaches that work for the particular student I'm working with. I always try to mix compliments and constructive criticism in my teaching. I encourage my students to record themselves throughout the week so that I can give feedback between lessons. I strive to create a friendly and relaxed learning environment where both teacher and student work together to gain greater mastery of the cello. Read More

I began learning cello with the Suzuki method at age five. I believe Suzuki is a great place to start, as it gives learners a chance to practice specific technical and musical skills before moving on to more challenging material. Suzuki also emphasizes listening to professionals perform pieces you're working on, which I believe is important as it allows you to "absorb" good habits. I believe in breaking down complex musical concepts into bite-sized lessons that include repetition and practice to achieve mastery. Read More

One of my favorite parts about teaching is that oftentimes I learn just as much as the student in the teaching process. For beginner students, I start by working through Hal Leonard's Essential Elements book one for cello. After completing this book of fundamentals, I have the student work through Suzuki books 1-5. Alongside the Suzuki books, I also make sure the student has pieces they can learn for fun. Read More
