Always start where the student is, and take them from there. Always encourage and inspire students to be better than yesterday. Progress, no matter the amount, is progress. Take your own pace. If you have a specific deadline, for example a college audition, you will have to commit to practicing more than usual and we will create a plan of action. Also, I do write letters of recommendation. I began giving lessons in my 2nd semester in college. I have been able to meet people from all walks of life and given lessons to students from ages 3 to 68. I read a great amount of classical literature and study allot of history; I say this to acknowledge the fact that I don't only teach proficiency in the music discipline. I started playing the Violin in 2004, Viola in 2009 and Piano in 2011. I graduated with a Bachelor in Music Performance specializing in Violin in 2015 from Barry University in Miami Shores. I teach the basics using a combination of methods, customizing lessons to each student's skill level, ability level, and interest (classical/folk/modern). For beginning students I suggest using the Suzuki Method, or Hal Leonard's Essential Elements. Once each student is ready to move beyond the fundamentals, I find exercises and solos to best fit and improve their skill level for recital performances, competitions, strings class/orchestra, or other activities.
