Therefore, I make it a point to set an agenda in each lesson that starts and ends with something fun, and is also predictable so that students know intuitively how to go about their practicing. During each lesson, the student and I set realistic goals for practicing and, despite the popular saying that the more time you spend practicing, the more effective your practice is, I have learned from many students that each student practices and learns from practicing in their own way. I have the most experience teaching beginner students with the Suzuki method. The main focus of Dr. Suzuki’s method is teaching from a place of love and encouragement. I find this method teaches the technical fundamentals of cello playing while keeping the students progressing at rate suitable for their individual needs.
