Music enables levels of communication and understanding between human beings that we don't come close to in the rest of our society and interactions. From my love for chamber music and recognition of music and art as an integral vocabulary for expanding global dialogue, understanding, and peace, I look for performance, creation, recording, and collaboration in classical, tango, contemporary, world, popular, and interdisciplinary artistic projects. Some of my teachers have included Peter Howard, Jorja Fleezanis, Atar Arad, Tanya Carey, and Sally Gross (choreographer). Read More

I offer a traditional string class. It includes Essential Elements and Suzuki Books. I also have recommended materials for diverse and interesting cello studies. I like to work with children of all ages and I enjoy helping them develop new skills, especially in the area of music performance. Starting cello lessons at a young age I am well aware of what was required of teachers and instructors to get me to be the cellist I am today. Read More

I am a professional classical bassist turned singer/songwriter - I also teach and play cello and general music. For over a decade I have performed with orchestras, chamber ensembles, bands, duets, trios, solo, etc... as well as teaching students of a variety of instruments and ages. Besides bass, I have taught piano, cello, pop vocals, ensemble skills, music theory, music production, and coached based on individual projects. I have played with the National Symphony at the Kennedy Center, in Russia, and at Carnegie Hall as a substitute musician as well as Quintango, a tango group based out of Alexandria, VA. Read More

My teaching style is informed by trauma-informed care and a student-led philosophy. This means that I take into account the frustration that learning a new instrument can entail, and use therapeutic techniques to make sure my students are regulated during these moments of frustration. I provide structure and guidance for my students, but give them opportunities for free exploration, decision making, and leadership throughout a lesson. During lessons, I like to emphasize practice techniques and thinking outside the box when approaching difficult or new musical content. Read More

Beginner school-aged cellists: I start this group off in the Essential Elements book 1 to ensure that the student is getting the fundamentals or theory and technique. After the student feels comfortable playing with the bow, I add the Suzuki book 1 to the repertoire. After completing Essential Elements Book 1, I then like to introduce the Schroeder etudes in addition to continuing to work our way through all 8 books in the Suzuki series. Read More

I am all about the individualized approach! Whether the student is looking at their instrument for the very first time or they are a seasoned veteran performer looking to freshen their approach or hone one specific side of their craft, I'm here and thrilled to help. Everyone learns differently; I recognize some kids and adults alike find the idea of staring into a book and practicing rudiments or études for hours a day either intimidating, boring, or both. I have been teaching private lessons for 10 years. Encouraging students to practice regularly and to have fun with their instrument is essential for the learning process. I stress the importance of these two things so that the student may develop a love for music and their instrument of choice. Also, being able to teach a variety of musical styles keeps students wanting to learn. I encourage students to not only learn written pieces, but to create their own music and individual sound.
