Fun and progress are the key! Playing guitar (or any instrument) should never feel like work. I gear my lessons so that students feel motivated and inspired to keep going. Instead of just practicing a bunch of scales, I will apply our lesson to a song or progression that is fun and matches the particular skill level of each student. My teaching method depends on what the student wants to learn, if they prefer to start learning songs first that is fine but I will still make sure to cover basic music principles in early lessons and incorporate them into the lessons. I can also start with method books but I have found that students don't always want to start there. For students that want a well rounded approach I will combine one of the common method books with simple songs and chords that the student can get going on right away. Read More

Once upon a time, one of my co-workers asked me to show her how to play some songs on the guitar. I can't remember exactly what those songs were, but I think it was Led Zeppelin, or something like that.
