I'm a driven musician and educator who strives to use my gift to make a positive difference in the lives of my listeners and students. I studied (undergrad and graduate respectively) at Howard University and Temple University, two wonderful urban campuses. I have been blessed to spend years cultivating my style and technique in the authentic music scenes of these cities. I began teaching the summer before my last year of my undergrad (summer of 2012) I worked at a few studios outside Pittsburgh (Batavia Studios in Mars, PA and Manella Guitars in Monroeville.) Since moving to NJ I got a couple more gigs as a teacher through recommendations (Westerhoff School of Music and Art in Metuchen and Music Tech in South Brunswick.) For students who are children I like to start to start learning rhythms through common children’s songs to show how easy music can be. Depending on the instrument, one of the many Hal Leonard books is always a good option. If they are a little older, I will use music that they like to teach how music theory and fundamental skills makes up all the musi they enjoy. Sessions include breathing/relaxation/meditation, John Cage jamming (where we listen to each other very attentively and make sounds on random objects for long periods of time), groove practice, spoken-word poetry, songwriting, and more conventional rock band stuff. I encourage students (and myself) to live their everyday lives musically, listening aesthetically to the world around them and paying attention to their own inner soundtracks (imagination). I believe in developing five core areas in musicianship: Theory/Understanding, Technique, Creativity, Reading, and Versatility. Initial lessons will identify the students strong points and weak points, and a personal strategy will be employed to help strengthen and balance the student overall. Many beginning classical musicians are able to read fairly well but have little to no comprehension of how and why the music works; while many contemporary musicians may have "chops" but lack in their ability to read and/or have proper technique. I started playing the bass guitar at 12, and since then I just felt in love with the instrument. I am from Brazil and performed in many different places abroad with Sao Paulo youth orchestra in Germany, France, Holland and the US. I graduated from Unesp Sao Paulo University of Arts with a Bachelor degree in Double Bass performance. I am currently in my second year of master degree in Bass performance at Temple University.
