For me, it's about building or finding moments. Finding out what is going to motivate you to learn that song, practice that chord, and try to instill the desire to show it off for next time. Once I find out where the student is at, wether they are learning their first chords or songs, or they have been trying for a while or just getting back to their old habit of picking up the instrument, the goal is to set the mark where one will wait eagerly for the next lesson, to show off their new found skill. I believe in teaching people to be true musicians and tap into their own creative spirits, not just to be technicians at the mercy of what's written for them. With that said, I take a balanced approached between learning traditional fundamentals and some of my own more philosophical approach, drawing on metaphors and analagous experiences to help frame this learning experience in ways the student can relate and understand. I call this The Art of Practice, which you'll be able to apply elsewhere in your life as well. Read More

I believe that all of us are musical, even if some have more innate talent than others. Curiosity, patience and dedication, addition to good references, are key aspects that translate into growth and achievement of goals for all of us. In class, I try to work within the dreams and motivations of each student, approaching repertoires that translate the students' interests in the best possible way. I always try to work on the theoretical/formal part in conjunction with the development, above all, of the ear and ear training. Read More

With more advanced students, furthering a students development and introducing more challenging concepts is what I focus on teaching. With drumming, I like to incorporate concepts such as polyrhythms, an understanding of different genres, improvisation, and ear training. For students that are preparing to pursue a degree in music, I can help them prepare for an audition because of my experience of being a college music student in the past. Read More

I'm a freelance musician with over six years of teaching experience. A singer/songwriter from New York, I graduated from Vassar College in 2020 with a degree in music, and moved to New Orleans to pursue a career in music education. In my time at Vassar, I was selected to join the school's Jazz Band as the sole bassist my Freshman year, I played bass in the orchestra where I spent time as the principal bassist, and led a small Jazz combo as well. I always have a gameplan. But it’s always based upon where we’re headed/your goals as a musician. Each lesson will usually be focused on 3 concepts- whether that be adding on/advancing something we’ve already done, or bringing in something new. One of those 3 things will almost always be a song of your choice (and if you don’t know what songs you want to work on, I’ll help you pick something). Read More

I really like using the Piano Adventures method for piano. However, I have used several method books for piano, guitar, and bass students before. Sometimes I do not require any books. It all depends on the student. I try to make a very personalized schedule per student. For adults, I also try to find out what the student is interested in and guide my instruction accordingly to keep the lesson engaging and fun no matter their ability level. Read More
