Being in the studio and creating songs had me pick up the piano, ukulele, and bass guitar which I then took on as instruments I teach. Through the years, I learned to concurrently teach the musical fundamentals to my students along with how those fundamentals apply to their instrument in a broad context! I intend to always tailor my lessons to my students desires, needs, and curiosity and keep the inspiration thriving. Read More

My teaching style is relaxed but focused. Understanding that each student develops at his or her own pace, I am patient and willing to answer any questions as we move along. I will set a goal for each lesson, and provide material to practice in between meetings. It's important to me that I find out what the student's goals are to ensure we are heading in the right direction. Regardless of ability, I find it very important for students to learn songs that they know well and are personally enjoyable for them to listen to. Read More

I have been teaching music off and on since college. It originally started with a few friends who asked if I could help show them some scales and such, and then grew from there. More important than anything to me is that the student is there by choice and really wants to learn. Practicing and playing music never seems like work to me, it is always fun, and I try to make it that way for my students also. Read More

My main focus is helping the student improve while enjoying the process. A musician is more likely to stick with it if it's fun. If it's classical on doublebass the book of choice is Simandl or something that teaches fingerings. Maybe the bassist wants to play jazz. That involves learning scales and patterns.Listening to the types of music you are interested in can be very helpful and fun and I like to encourage that. Read More

In high school, I was blessed with an incredibly patient, thorough and talented choir teacher. He taught me the fundamental building blocks of musicianship as I understand it best. To this day, I use the key concepts I learned from him in my lessons. 1) Rhythm is the most important element of music. 2) Understanding the importance of persistence, practice, and patience with the instrument. 3) You can manufacture energy and put it into your music.
