I recommend that anyone starting to learn music begins at the age of ten simply because of finger strength and focus. I also try to ensure that they practice at a minimum of 20 to 30 minutes a day between lessons to help them reach their full potential. I stand by the "practice makes perfect" saying wholeheartedly. I use a variety of methods: tablature seems to be the preferred method for most guitarist/ukulele students. It's easy to learn. The 'tab' method allows me to teach more current music. I also use method books by Mel Bay and Hal Leonard and other method systems that apply to the particular student. I specialize in taking a practical approach to teaching, where there is more emphasis on the instrument as it tends to keep students interested and motivated through the difficult early stages.
