For me, it is easier for me to hear a rhythm or melody while looking at it. It is easier for me to grasp and understand the rhythm and melody in terms of the context of the piece. Same with my teaching. I will always demonstrate a scale or rhythm or chord for a student before having the student attempt it by themselves. After we work through the example together, I will have them try playing it alone and if a particular area needs to be fixed I will address it, make sure the student understands, and move on from there. There is nothing more satisfying than to see my students achieve their goals and develop an increasing love for music.Some students learn extremely fast, and some may learn at a slower pace than others.I am indeed a very patient and understanding instructor.People may have certain obstacles that may stand in their way of learning.That is the reason why I make myself available to talk to anyone with questions or certain concerns they may want to discuss.As time progress and I start to see their talent developing I often invite them to come to my live performances and sit in with the band.This helps to develop their craft and hopefully increase their self esteem and perseverance.Playing for your first audience can be a little scary, but once you've gotten through that initial performance, is undoubtedly a great achievement.
