I always try to guide my instruction in a fun and engaging direction to keep the student interested and motivated to get better. I am able to do this by being energetic and enthusiastic about my teaching and I feel its important to make the material matter to the student. When a student has confidence in their abilities they are able to achieve much success on their specific instrument. As I also previously mentioned, getting to know what inspires a student and knowing them on a more personal level helps develop a better student/teacher relationship and thus yields a better outcome on the instrument. I have been teaching guitar and bass for the past 10 years, and have had the pleasure of watching some of my students move on to become actively performing, professional musicians. I bounced between many instructors as I was learning to play, and studied under a handful of music professors in college. Doing so helped me see the instructor who I wanted to become, and develop a teaching program that caters to the needs of each individual student. Read More

Music is meant to be a form of expression. Sometimes you'll find a student may have a hard time expressing themselves. So as part of my teaching style I try to make them feel comfortable. Everyone is different, which make some students more challenging than others. However, there is something consistent about every student. Every student has that look of bewilderment when they completely understand something. I call it the light bulb. Read More

I consider myself a laid back teacher who still has solid expectations. I understand that each student's feasible time commitment may be different and I would like to honor that. With that said, I expect my students to put time into their music, because that is the only way to make progress and to maximize their ultimate enjoyment of playing an instrument. I will set realistic weekly goals for each student, trying to balance their interests with my evaluation of what they need to work on to make the most progress. Read More

I am a fun-loving, passionate instructor who loves watching students experience the satisfaction of making progress and feeling accomplished. I have toured all over the U.S. performing with many great musicians such as Alasdair Fraser, Hanneke Cassel, Mari Black, and many others. I'm both proud and fortunate to have been featured numerous times on WGBH for "A Celtic Sojourn" with Brian O'Donovan. A regular night for me consists purely of doing what I love: playing music with friends at local bars or my own living room. Read More

After establishing the experience level of the student, I will create an appropriate lesson plan. For less experienced students, I will use my own, introductory written exercises and simple guitar riffs to get started. Upon forming the basic skill needed to learn pieces of music, I will either introduce solo repertoire pieces or songs that the student wish to learn while continuing with my pre-written exercises. For more experienced students, I will use Jazz standards from the Real Book and J.S Bach pieces transcribed for guitar as a way to practice more advanced compositions and sight reading if that is something the student is interested in. Select all the days/times the student would be available to start lessons. Selecting "3pm - 7pm" means the student can start as early as 3pm or start as late as 7pm. It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
