I have been teaching music for over 18 years, primarily guitar. I have taught music for retail, private learning and performing arts centers. I have taught electric and acoustic guitar, bass, mandolin, music theory, sight reading, scales and modes, and improvisation. Every student starts or resumes classes at different levels. My job is to recognize that level and proceed accordingly. I like my students to be able to learn and progress at the rate they can or want to. Letting students let you know what they want to learn and at what pace, helps the student as well as the teacher in that progress. For younger students I start with showcasing what they can achieve with practice and perseverance. I do that by showing my playing. Then we start with the chromatic scale so the fingers can get use to the strings and moving around the fretboard. Same with drums but we start with easy hits and patterns.
