For anyone beginning I make my lessons fun because you have to love music to keep wanting to learn. In person lessons I let them play with my studio equipment my guitars and see what style they like or what sounds they enjoy. Then throw in some chords, some notes or a small scale. Whatever makes music fun is what I will start with. Once my student has a good grasp and is hooked then we work hard on techniques, speed and rhythm. Read More

My passion for teaching is borne out of a love for connecting with others, fostering curiosity, and sharing my love of music. I hold a Master of Music from the Peabody Conservatory, which I earned in 2006, and I studied with jazz guitar great Paul Wingo for several years after that. I have studied with some of the finest classical guitarists in the world, including Manuel Barrueco, David Russell, Roland Dyens, Ray Chester, William Feasley, and many others. Read More

With my teaching style, I try to maintain open lines of communication as much as possible. This means learning about students, them learning about me, and feeling comfortable in communicating their roadblocks in music. Music is an expressive art form, and I believe that being able to effectively communicate with students will lead to a better instruction - students feel more comfortable performing and explaining issues, and teachers can cater to the learning styles of those students, which expedites the learning process and creativity. I believe that the goal of music lessons is to discover what each student wants to achieve. Therefore, I seek to use different methods, lessons, and exercises that will work toward what each individual wishes to accomplish for themselves. If we can work together on a particular piece of music or a song that a student wants to learn, then there is a goal to accomplish and it is fun to reach that goal! Read More
