I'm a freelance musician with over six years of teaching experience. A singer/songwriter from New York, I graduated from Vassar College in 2020 with a degree in music, and moved to New Orleans to pursue a career in music education. In my time at Vassar, I was selected to join the school's Jazz Band as the sole bassist my Freshman year, I played bass in the orchestra where I spent time as the principal bassist, and led a small Jazz combo as well. For begining students I like to start from a foundational stand point. It is very important to enstill good practice habits and technique in order not to develop bad habits in your playing. For drumming and other instruments, starting with rudiments, learning how to read music, and playing scales are a great way to help a student build their technique and ear up. I think it is really important to ask what kind of music the student is into or show them how the foundational basics can be used in an actual playing situation instead of just a boring regimented routine. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students develop a passion for music! Therefore, it is important that each student progresses at his or her own place. I encourage this by setting goals and assignments for my students at each lesson. Acknowledging accomplishments helps fuel a student's desire to progress and makes students eager to learn more. By trying to find out what inspires the student, I can successfully tailor my instruction to their wants and needs. Read More

My teaching style is firm yet easygoing and fun..I expect the student to have practiced and be ready to play their homework back to me. I use repetition quite a bit but that's the best way, I find, that someone learns. I also encourage them to investigate and practice things that have not necessarily been assigned in order to see how serious they are. In other words, when they're not practicing what I show them, I expect them to experiment and investigate the fretboard on their own and then if they do come across something cool, then we can build off that Read More

Hello! I am a professional saxophone player in the great musical city of New Orleans. I recently moved from my home state of Massachusetts working as a director of an after school music program for youth, to pursue a career as a performer. Since relocating, I've performed hundreds of shows with many amazing bands, such as the Glen David Andrews Band, the Young Fellaz Brass Band, the Marigny St Brass Band, The Roamin' Jasmine, the Jimmy Maxwell Orchestra, and many more. I have been teaching as a side-gig and hobby for almost as long as I've been playing! It started with friends in the neighborhood approaching me for advice on how to get started playing guitar. In my years in the Baltimore/DC area, I took private students for extra income outside of my dayjob. Now in New Orleans after years of grinding as a performing musician, I've increased my roster of students as a rewarding and less stressful way to have a music centered career, primarily with guitar and drums.
