Instruments: Bass Guitar
Upon graduating from high school, I started teaching bass lessons when possible and quickly fell in love with teaching. I specialize in taking a practical approach to teaching, where there is more emphasis on the instrument as it tends to keep students interested and motivated through the difficult early stages. I personally invest myself into each student and strive to help them reach their own personal musical goals. It is important to have mutual trust and friendship in the teaching process and I believe I do a very good job at making students comfortable in a healthy learning environment. Read More

I initially started teaching electric bass privately during my sophomore year at Goucher College. Since then, I have been teaching for three years. I taught at the Goucher Summer Arts Institute and have continued to participate as a seasonal camp counselor for their jazz camp. While I was studying abroad in Copenhagen, Denmark through Goucher College, I participated in a Danish music pedagogy program which thoroughly enhanced my love and knowledge of teaching music. I am adaptable to what interests and clicks with you as a musician, so if you want to dive deep into music theory, including music notation, harmony, advanced rhythms, awesome. If you would rather learn by ear and reading basic chord charts and lead sheets, no problem. Regardless, I like to start with establishing good form and a basic understanding of musical terms. From there, well look at the music that inspires you and craft a strategy to increase your comfort and proficiency in that area. Read More

One of the mistakes that new teachers can have is they worry about keeping the students interest. This is a disservice to the student. Students "are smart people". They can pick up on whether you love teaching or if you are only doing this for some financial reward. The music student is very lucky as these skills they learn even at the most rudimentary level will last them a lifetime. Read More
