I believe the most important component of music lessons is finding music the student loves to play. If a teacher can foster a genuine love of music in a student, that student is, generally speaking, guaranteed to put forth a generous effort toward learning complete pieces. I am a passionate instructor with a love for music and learning. I began playing piano when I was 3 years old, and I have since added the B flat clarinet, bass clarinet, bassoon, and saxophone to my collection. I have held the first chair clarinet and bassoon positions in multiple school bands for over 8 years, and I have performed piano in various venues including hospitals, nursing homes, funerals, baseball games, recitals, and competitions. There is no single right way to teach, so I am always trying to learn about new and different methods and, most importantly, to learn from my students about how they learn best. I encourage them to have confidence in their playing, to enjoy what they play, and to pick out their own mistakes and accomplishments. Read More

I've realized every student has a different way of learning, and the methods will cater to the individual. For instance, students who learned mostly by ear can learn about theory. We can begin by identifying whether a scale is major or minor, but first we need to know that major generally sounds brighter/happy and minor usually sounds darker/sad. Read More
