I started teaching guitar and bass in 2001. I started teaching ukulele in 2013. Over the years, I have taught professionally at schools, park districts and music stores- in most cases becoming the top teacher (meaning, I was the most requested and had the best enrollment longevity). When I realized my ability to teach and how perfect it felt for me, I never looked back. In 2006, I opened a music venue/recording studio that was open to all ages- closing 9 years later in 2015. I am a passionate and motivated music instructor who loves helping students and sharing my love of music with others. In 2013, I graduated from Loyola University New Orleans with a minor in classical music. I have received lessons in piano, guitar, and bass for over 15 years and have had the privilege of studying with several known musicians from around the world. I started teaching music in 2009 by accident. I soon realized that teaching was my gift and passion. Read More

Most of all the rescources I use for my students can be found for free online. The most important things for any classical guitarist are: Mauro Giuliani’s right hand arpeggio studies, Matteo Carcassi’s Etudes, Fernando Sor’s etudes among exercises I’ve learned and created personally. Other great rescources are Scott Tennant’s Book “Pumping Nylon” and Pepe Romero’s book “La Guitarra”, which are about $20 a book. Read More

Because every student has different levels of experiences, aptitudes, and learning styles, my teaching methods vary based on each student. Generally, I work with the student to come up with a set of goals to work towards achieving. I teach the fundamentals of the instrument through learning songs that are of interest to the student. I generally use notation (sheet music) and will use instrument workbooks if it seems appropriate, while focusing mainly on developing the ear through listening. Read More

Teaching has always been apart of my career whether on the bandstand, the studio or in the classroom. When i graduated from Grambling State in 2013, i was hired as band director at MLK Jr High School in Ouachita Parish as well as two feeder elementary schools. I've learned that relating to the kids own musical experiences will help me expose them to detailed principles that they experience every time they listen to their favorite songs or watching their favorite movies. My passion for music comes from childhood, learning the first chords on the guitar with my father. From then on, I began to study classical guitar in conjunction with a repertoire of Brazilian and Latin music. Later I deepened my studies on the 7-string nylon guitar and also on the semi-acoustic guitar, especially in the language of jazz and blues. I completed a bachelor's degree in popular guitar at the most prestigious institution in the city of So Paulo, FASM. Read More

I am not strict in one specific style. I try to be malleable in my approach as I get to know the habits and abilities of each individual. I've had students for whom I thought it best to be more rigid and repetitive drill based, while others seem to benefit from a more passive guru. It's a spectrum. Always, though, I try to control the pace of the session, to speak thoughtfully, honestly, and constructively whilst always maintaining the utmost respect for the struggles that a student is facing.
