Hello! I am a professional saxophone player in the great musical city of New Orleans. I recently moved from my home state of Massachusetts working as a director of an after school music program for youth, to pursue a career as a performer. Since relocating, I've performed hundreds of shows with many amazing bands, such as the Glen David Andrews Band, the Young Fellaz Brass Band, the Marigny St Brass Band, The Roamin' Jasmine, the Jimmy Maxwell Orchestra, and many more. I believe that all of us are musical, even if some have more innate talent than others. Curiosity, patience and dedication, addition to good references, are key aspects that translate into growth and achievement of goals for all of us. In class, I try to work within the dreams and motivations of each student, approaching repertoires that translate the students' interests in the best possible way. I always try to work on the theoretical/formal part in conjunction with the development, above all, of the ear and ear training. Read More

My teaching experience started in 2009. Since then I have consistently taught students ranging from 3 years old to wise adults over 80 years. I generally teach in my home studio because I find students benefit much more than being at their home. I make exceptions for those with busy schedules (however I highly recommend having lessons outside your home). Encouraging a personal lesson and education is one of my focuses as it tends to help the student progress and maintain a passion for the instrument and music. Read More

I am not strict in one specific style. I try to be malleable in my approach as I get to know the habits and abilities of each individual. I've had students for whom I thought it best to be more rigid and repetitive drill based, while others seem to benefit from a more passive guru. It's a spectrum. Always, though, I try to control the pace of the session, to speak thoughtfully, honestly, and constructively whilst always maintaining the utmost respect for the struggles that a student is facing. My teaching style is firm yet easygoing and fun..I expect the student to have practiced and be ready to play their homework back to me. I use repetition quite a bit but that's the best way, I find, that someone learns. I also encourage them to investigate and practice things that have not necessarily been assigned in order to see how serious they are. In other words, when they're not practicing what I show them, I expect them to experiment and investigate the fretboard on their own and then if they do come across something cool, then we can build off that Read More

For begining students I like to start from a foundational stand point. It is very important to enstill good practice habits and technique in order not to develop bad habits in your playing. For drumming and other instruments, starting with rudiments, learning how to read music, and playing scales are a great way to help a student build their technique and ear up. I think it is really important to ask what kind of music the student is into or show them how the foundational basics can be used in an actual playing situation instead of just a boring regimented routine. I've seen the face of an 80 year old grasping the ukulele and finally getting to hear himself playing his own songs, and seeing the glow in his eyes like a child. When you set realistic goals and set what steps are going to get you there, all the while celebrating each little victory, every lesson depends on the needs of my student. I am currently teaching solely for the fun of it and the challenge in it, as it is not my main career or main project, but it is something I get a lot from, and I have found over the years, has helped a ton of people get back into picking up their instrument, and cutting out the world for a bit.
