I have experience participating in, working with, and conducting college level choirs and I am still gaining experience. I have also passed Piano Proficiency in my undergrad education. This proficiency test covers major and minor scales in all twelve keys in two octaves with proper fingering, playing a piece from memory, sight reading open score (a four-part choral work), and I have had to harmonize a melody using the three basic I, IV, V7 chords in a major key and i, iv, V7 chords in a minor key. I have a series of written exercises for all levels of students for each instruments, as well as a list of songs I assign to help them build a repertoire. However, the interests of the student come first and foremost. I try to keep the material close to the styles the student favors so they stay engaged and enjoy the challenge of learning their favorite songs. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to 1988 when I began teaching. It's the greatest feeling in the world to see pupils learn to love music and grow as musicians. Teaching music in the style of interest to the student is important to maintaining interest and motivation to practice. The key is fun and enjoyment. Read More

I have been teaching music lessons for over 5 years. When I first started, I taught part time for people in my church. I began to realize that I love to help develop people. I see myself as a catalyst for realizing full potential. I believe a teacher's greatest asset is not necessarily how much knowledge that can instill into their student, because knowledge can only take you so far. Rather a teacher's greatest asset is inspiration. Read More

I began teaching when I was 15 years old, which was around the year 1984,in Brooklyn NY.I studied music at Samuel J Tilden High School and taught bass at Meyer Levin J.H.S two afternoons a week after school..In 1989 I moved to Charlotte NC, attended college and began working in various bands.I had to stop teaching for a short period of time due to my busy gig schedule. It wasn't long before I discovered that there was something missing in my life, and that something was teaching music.I have taught students from the ages of 9,which is the age that I started playing, all the way up to 60 years old.I encourage my students to practice and to have fun at the same time.I want them to not be afraid to try something such as listening to their favorite music and attempting to play it by ear. That is what I did when I was taking lessons. It is good training for the ear. When I see my students develop their craft and a love for music, that is one of the greatest feelings.
