I approach teaching in a very specialized why to every student I have. First I asses where you currently are as a player and discuss where you would like your playing to go. After I know where you want to go I can then tailor my teaching to your specific wants. Sometimes thats teaching songs and sometimes its teaching theory. If your wanting to know how to read music or tabs I can help with that as well. Read More

I'm a passionate and motivated instructor who loves working with students and sharing my love of music. In 2007, I graduated from George Mason University with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Guitar Performance. I have performed all over the countryside with bands that play anything from jazz - pop - rock. I can teach any style of music. My primary instrument is guitar with a concentration in jazz. I have extensive knowledge in music theory, jazz theory, and music literacy. Read More

I believe I am a friendly guy at heart, so I tend to be friendly with the students. There are times where I have to tell them, for example, "You haven't been practicing.". But I try my best to do that in love while encouraging them when I see even the smallest improvement. I feel as though the key is to play as much as possible. That can be hard to do when you feel like you don't know how to play. Read More

However, I did not stop at just sharing knowledge. One of my students named Recker Eans was interested in playing shows at 6 years old so I taught his parents to manage a social media account for him and to go play out at places such as First Friday on roosevelt row. He quickly gained traction and has now been on Fox News, BBC, and a couple other local news programs. Read More

For all students, I teach them exercises to strenghten their fundamentals and skills in the given instrument, and each lesson we practice the exercises to focus on improving their sound production, pitch finding, placement, and more. We also learn songs that both the student and I choose and prepare for performance (when necessary). Here are the books I work from for each instrument, but please note that I don't necessarily use these for every student, only when appropriate: GUITAR: Mel Bay's Modern Guitar Method (books 1 through 3) VOICE: Master Vocal Exercises by Horatio Connell, and Sightsinging (Hal Leonard) BASS GUITAR: Bass Method, (Hal Leonard, books 1 through 3) TRUMPET: Essential Elements 2000, (Hal Leonard, books 1 through 3) Read More

Throughout the 8 12 years that I have been teaching I have been learning a lot about many different methods and teaching styles. I always had thought that what I was being taught could have been taught in a more natural and more efficient way. I have borrowed many of my ideas from some of the greatest teachers in history and believe the most in the bel canto method created but David Jacobsen who is an alumni of the Curtis Institute of Music, the greatest school of music in the world. As I first approach a new student, my first question to them is "why drums?". From that response I have a better idea of where this student is most comfortable for playing. Their genre of musical listening is a strong consideration of the styles they would enjoy learning. By finding their strong points of playing building an individual curriculum for that student gives them a better opportunity to become a player to the best of their abilities. Read More
