I understand that as a teacher, my job is to not just teach the instrument or a song, but to inspire a deep, passionate love for music. The teachers that had the biggest impact on me and that I enjoyed the most were the ones who cared the most about my relationship to the music I was playing. Because of this, I make sure the student is always engaged in what they are playing and are enjoying it. Read More

The first thing I do is find out where you already are. If you’re a beginner, we’ll get right into the basics and build from there. I like to use a book to supplement lessons but not as a main focus. If you’ve already been playing, I’ll usually try to find anything you may have missed along the way that I consider to be important. Once the basics are covered, our path is greatly dependent on your goals. Read More

I am a passionate and motivated music instructor who loves helping students and sharing my love of music with others. In 2013, I graduated from Loyola University New Orleans with a minor in classical music. I have received lessons in piano, guitar, and bass for over 15 years and have had the privilege of studying with several known musicians from around the world. I started teaching music in 2009 by accident. I soon realized that teaching was my gift and passion. Read More

I began my journey as a mentor and teacher as a camp counselor back when I was in High School. Since then, I have developed my teaching style and experience through offering private and group music lessons in after school programs, music studios, and middle schools across Massachusetts. From 2013-2015 I went back to school for my masters in Community Music Education, where I studied traditional and experiential learning, progressive and alternative education, as well as arts administration and childhood development. For begining students I like to start from a foundational stand point. It is very important to enstill good practice habits and technique in order not to develop bad habits in your playing. For drumming and other instruments, starting with rudiments, learning how to read music, and playing scales are a great way to help a student build their technique and ear up. I think it is really important to ask what kind of music the student is into or show them how the foundational basics can be used in an actual playing situation instead of just a boring regimented routine. I believe that all of us are musical, even if some have more innate talent than others. Curiosity, patience and dedication, addition to good references, are key aspects that translate into growth and achievement of goals for all of us. In class, I try to work within the dreams and motivations of each student, approaching repertoires that translate the students' interests in the best possible way. I always try to work on the theoretical/formal part in conjunction with the development, above all, of the ear and ear training. Read More

For me, it's about building or finding moments. Finding out what is going to motivate you to learn that song, practice that chord, and try to instill the desire to show it off for next time. Once I find out where the student is at, wether they are learning their first chords or songs, or they have been trying for a while or just getting back to their old habit of picking up the instrument, the goal is to set the mark where one will wait eagerly for the next lesson, to show off their new found skill.
