I have taught dozens students from over 20 countries about songwriting, guitar playing, singing, lyric writing, piano, ukulele and more. Since 2011 I have played in over 1000 stages, starting in my hometown of Corrientes, Argentina, at first playing on the streets for tips and later moving onto bars, later theaters, and now touring full time. For begining students I like to start from a foundational stand point. It is very important to enstill good practice habits and technique in order not to develop bad habits in your playing. For drumming and other instruments, starting with rudiments, learning how to read music, and playing scales are a great way to help a student build their technique and ear up. I think it is really important to ask what kind of music the student is into or show them how the foundational basics can be used in an actual playing situation instead of just a boring regimented routine. For beginners, I show them basic chords (Major, Minor and Diminished) if they're a guitarist and if they're a bassist, I teach them octaves and basic waking lines. Once they progress, I show them common scales and chord progressions used in modern music and focus on developing technique. If they're intermediate to advanced, I ask them what they feel they need work on and we focus on that. For example, a student might want to know how to solo over a basic rock or blues progression or the bassist might wanna know how to make his basslines swing more. Read More
