I keep it light and simple. In lessons, I am a listener as well as a teacher. I use the students own words to work through music. I encourage students to focus on what things feel like, and describe them, so that we can focus on what is working well! For beginning students I always begin with a methods book, I believe that good fundamentals are what makes a good musician, but I also teach ear training methods thereby giving the student the best in both worlds. Once the fundamentals and foundation are efficient, then according to the instrument I move to solo repertoire or experimentation or interpretation. Cassidy has also been very involved in the West Michigan music business scene. She has promoted local musicians by designing posters, creating electronic press kits and booking shows with Michigan venues. Cassidy also founded 1202 Sessions, a promotional media service for musicians. Through 1202 Sessions, Cassidy has partnered with Carbon Stories, a media agency, to promote many local musicians by directing music videos, hosting concerts at Art Prize and putting on album release parties. I teach beginning students both by rote and through reading. We use standard Suzuki books for repertoire and method books such as Wohlfahrt, Mazaz, and Sevcik. Very young students begin on Sassmanshaus since it is very engaging as well as well written. However if there is a specific book a student wants to learn from (such as a book from school or a specific style such as country or fiddle) then I am more than willing to teach from that. Read More
