I am very much a people person and enjoy adapting my teaching styles to the individual. Some people want to learn a very specific style of music, and others are open to learning everything. To me, it is most important that a student feels successful in what they have accomplished each lesson. Every student progresses at their own rate and it's important to give students attainable short-term goals in the service of long-term achievements. It is also important to know what drives each student and understand why they want to take private lessons. This will give the student a degree of inspiration which us as teachers can use to help them stay focused and interested in continuing with their studies. Read More

For children, I may teach fun, short, simple songs first to keep the student engaged. Read More

Nothing is better than watching a student make the transition from one level of playing to the next. It is important that each student progress at his or her own pace. This is achieved by setting realistic goals each week. I love to encourage students' success by acknowledging their accomplishments, no matter how small. This helps fuel their desire to get better. I want to know what inspires my students so I can bring that into the lesson every week. Read More

Since then, I have taught master classes, clinics, and private lessons in theory and improvisation, to various singers and instrumentalists at the college and community level. Read More
