They are here because they want to be shown. The last thing I want for my students is to feel burdened by bookwork while learning the guitar. For entry level students such as children, I will teach them out of a method book to get them started. They will learn all the fundamentals the proper way to hold the instrument and tuning. And once they have improved to the point where have the ability to learn songs they will be taught the songs they will love to play. For young beginners, I usually start with simple note reading so that they can begin playing tunes right away. When children realize that they can play "Happy Birthday" or "Jingle Bells" after just a couple of lessons, their interest level increases. For older students, I tend to ask "What does playing the guitar look like to you? What do you imagine yourself doing when you ponder it?"
