Then when the student progresses the fundamentals I will start to introduce solo pieces for recital performance. I value working with my students on a personal level to determine what their goals are for lessons, and then make a plan to address those goals to the best of my ability. For beginner students, I always focus on building a solid understanding of music reading, rhythm, fingering of notes, and general musical concepts that may be glossed over in a classroom setting (which is where many students begin their musical education).
