At first, students may require a lot of assistance to get through the material, but as they progress, I teach with the intention that they will one day be able to look at a piece and teach themselves without assistance from me. This can take quite a long time and usually requires years of dedication and study. I encourage students to understand the music theory behind the songs they play so its about a lot more than simply memorizing notes on their instrument. Read More

I have 23 years of teaching experience in a variety of settings. I enjoy working with students of all ages. Music is an international language that has brought me many wonderful life experiences. In addition to classroom and private instruction, I compose my own music. I perform regularly at folk venues and festivals. My classical music training and my love for Broadway have influenced my writing. My musician friends call my genre 'theatrical folk.' I enjoy sharing my knowledge and love of music with my students. I have been teaching applied lessons since 2006, when I began teaching high school students in IL. Since then, I have taught students from middle schoolers to retirees, from beginning students learning to match pitch to advanced students taking professional auditions and winning national awards. I taught high school applied lessons from 2006-2014 in IL and TX. In 2014, I moved to OK, where I began teaching full time on the college level as a Visiting Assistant Professor of Music. Read More

The most important part of teaching, for me, is to see my students developing a love for music. Each student is different and will show their skills/talents in different ways and at different paces. I am patient to let students grow in their own way while also challenging them to be the best they can be. I love to laugh with my students and develop a rapport with them that makes them feel comfortable in the lesson environment. Read More

I doubt you will be very happy about it in the long run. On the other hand, even very simple goals, when pursued with love, almost always provide a bedrock of UNIVERSAL musical information, no matter what form the goal might take. In other words, anything you want to work on musically will teach you more than JUST a specific song or piece; and I consider it my job to help you see just how much of a treasure is waiting under the surface, which you can then use for all other pieces of music you explore in the future. I started teaching private piano lessons while getting my masters in piano. I have over 25 years of experience and can adapt my teaching style according to the needs of the students. I have worked with students with IEPs in school, retired individuals who just want to enjoy making music, and very young beginners. Sme of my students have continued their musical studies and have been accepted in music colleges. Even if they eventually switch to a different musical instrument, the knowledge and experience gained in piano lessons cannot be measured because all aspects eventually make further learning much easier.
