I enjoy working at the begining to intermediate level for children as I get to introduce the earliest piano musical skills and I usually spend thirty minutes on teaching piano practice methods and thirty minutes on music theory skills. Currently, I use books like Dozen a Day, Scales and Hanon to build good finger techniques, John Thompson and John W.Schaum books for songs and theory preparation. This is to ensure that the baseline technique is there as they find how their instrument, the voice, is growing into their developing selves. I teach a breath based technique with a focus on relaxation. I want to help each individual find their true instrument. I like to use the 24 Italian Songs and Arias (Italian Art Songs) book as a basis for learning breath technique, legato, use of vowels and musicality, as well as being exposed to a foreign language. My teaching experiences stems back to my undergraduate career at the John J. Cali School of music. I began teaching and tutoring underclassmen in theory, piano and voice while also teaching dance classes in the community. After I graduated I continued teaching and gained an assistantship to continue voice lessons to undergraduate non-majors. I also was the assistant director for our musical theater revue. After I returned from my masters work I contued teaching as various private schools in the New Jersey area before being hired as an artist affiliate at Bucknell University in 2015. Read More
