I began my career teaching music in several elementary schools near Princeton, New Jersey right after I finished graduate school in 2002. I've spent much of my career teaching in one form or another, and recently took a two year hiatus to be home with my baby son. I love musical theater and have been in many, many regional theater productions. I have been the lead or principal character in a number of shows. Read More

My teaching experience goes back to my college days, as I began teaching private adult lessons for my Studio class 5 years ago and have been teaching privately ever since. For the past year, however, I've been an elementary music teacher in Washington, D.C. I am certified to teach Pre-K-12th grades in public schools, although I usually coach adults privately. I now live in Richmond and gig around the area frequently at weddings, churches, and local venues/theatres. Read More

I believe making music fun can keep students motivated and improve their skills. When you love music, you are more motivated to improve. I also believe music is based on a lot of techniques. In order to express your feeling through music and have more fun, you will need to practice to mature the technique. Practice makes perfect!!! I believe that everyone is unique. I encourage my students, but insist that they need to learn something new every lesson so they can get closer to their goals. Read More

My method varies greatly depending on the student. I don't use method books with voice students, since the voice is so personal. I don't believe there's any such thing as a "one size fits all" method--lessons should be designed to meet the needs of the individual. I know that most voice teachers wont teach kids younger than 12 or 13, and I also know that many parents are probably (rightly) suspicious of the teachers who do, for fear that theyll hurt kids' young voices. A typical hour voice lesson involves three parts: 1) warm-up/vocalizing and listening to ones voice to learn more about the voice, sound production, breathing and placement; 2) working on a particular technique or perceived shortcoming; 3) applying the techniques from the lesson to a song or gaining confidence in performance. My teaching style is relaxed and fun but devoted to working on proper vocal technique and confidence building. For example, to be a good singer one must have a good understanding of the muscles and parts of the body that are involved in breathing and how that relates to making beautiful sounds. Read More
