I usually start with breathing exercises and vocalises for all students. I also use the exercise books Concone and Sieber. After the student has grasped the breathing and the coordination of the vocalises we move on to repertoire that is age appropriate. I encourage my students to sing in Italian as this helps them to acquire a proper technique because Italian uses pure vowels. I have studied with some great teachers and feel like I need to pass on those methods to the next generation of musicians. Read More

I believe first and foremost in supporting and developing what musically inspires a student’s decision to study and/or play music.  In order to fully develop control, musicality and understanding of the music language, it is important to focus on several aspects of music including music theory (scale and harmonic structure/function and rhythm) ear-training, reading and performance skills. I have been teaching private voice since 1991.  Along with teaching privately out of my home, over the years I have served on faculty as an adjunct voice professor at the college and university level, and have taught private voice in school districts for their junior high and high school choirs.  My own children study with me and are performing regularly in musical theater productions and choirs.  I love helping singers discover their beautiful, God-given singing voice and watching it blossom as they consistently practice and apply the techniques. Most of the students I've taught have had a background in music through singing in choirs, etc. Other students have had a limited musical background. At whatever the ability level or background, I always try to introduce appropriate solo repertoire to which the student can relate, as well as introducing songs that will aid in teaching proper vocal technique and proper diction. If the student needs additional training in music theory, I gladly incorporate that into the lesson. Read More

I am invested in my students' lives and endeavor to make sure that my studio is a place where they feel understood, appreciated, and safe.
