I always begin a lesson with having the student play a song/piece of their choice, so that they can feel confident and comfortable in their own skin and in the lesson space. For wind instruments, long tones and scales will occur at the beginning of the lesson, and will be followed by study of an etude and/or piece of repertoire. I will ask the student to sing through the piece, so that the student can make a connection with their own voice and with the music, followed by the student reading through the piece with their instrument. Hello! I'm a singer, songwriter, and music teacher from Brooklyn, NY. I have a formal musical education, with a degree in composition from Purchase College, (Regina Spektor also graduated from this program!), 6 years of experience as a solo performer, and worked extensively in recent years on writing songs, and releasing recordings (my producer plays keys for Ingrid Michaelson!) My biggest goals for teaching are to provide a student with a comfortable space to be vulnerable, allow them that space to promote learning, and create a plan for students that allows them to achieve their personal goals while growing their love and passion for music. At the end of the day, lessons are work, but music is meant to be enjoyable and something they can be passionate about. I want to help students set realistic goals and be able to achieve them within a reasonable amount of time. Read More

I believe in teaching discipline, responsibility and dedication through the art of music! I use the NYS Common Core in Music to teach. My students are more likely to excel in all of their studies, have enhanced critical thinking skills and will have a higher level of focus discipline than students not studying music the arts. As an adult, learning how to play an instrument is a way to challenge your brain in an effort to stay sharper and alert for longer. Read More

Not all students are created the same! I do my best to adjust my teaching style and lesson for each student. Especially for novice students, I adjust the pace in order for the student to ease into the instrument. Especially with piano, I advocate warming up and practicing effectively. In my opinion, it is best to work smarter and be efficient with practice time. It is important to me to not only have good technique and a fundamental knowledge of music theory, but to understand the who, what, where, when, how, and why in the music. Read More

I have been a student of the art since I was 11 years old. I studied at Five Towns College and have since performed with all manner of ensembles including Musical Theatre, Rock and Pop, Metal, Blues, and Opera. As well as teaching and performing, I am also an experienced guitar technician and repair professional. Music, and my commitment to my students has been my life for as long as memory serves. The study of vocal production, articulation, semantics, and syntax follows a logical, developmental progression that allows the artist finally to let go of technique and focus on the pragmatics of communication: identifying objectives, impulsively choosing tactics based on moment-to-moment sensory experience, and effectively acting in relationship with others. I value student diversity and I am particularly sensitive to issues of voice and identity. In the process of identifying personal habits of vocal use, I encourage students and performers to embrace and expand upon their sense of individuality. Read More
