I began teaching private voice lessons to high school-age children in 2016. Since then, I have had the opportunity to work with people ages 5-30. The Metropolitan Opera Guild was an excellent teaching experience, where my mentors included teachers at Lincoln Center and New England Conservatory alumni. As a participant in NEC's Vocal Pedagogy program, I had the experience of teaching lessons to my colleagues in NEC Opera. For younger children, I typically start with the fundamentals such as distinguishing between the head voice and the chest voice. Once the student has progressed to have a grasp of the fundamentals, I will begin to introduce solo repertoire appropriate for said student. For adults, I try to find out what the student is interested in both repertoire and vocal goals, and guide my instruction according to their goals. I also believe that singing is highly physical and I help all of my students with physical exercises to help them become more aware of their bodies and build strength in certain places while releasing others, especially in the belly and abdomen (a place singers often hold so much tension). These exercises are based mostly on Qi-Gong moves which also facilitate smooth, even breathing. My overall goal, of course, is for my students to have fun and be able to express themselves without any limits from unhealthy technique, and be able to share their gift with the world. Read More

It is important for me to know my students in order to create a lesson plan and learning experience that works. I ask lots and lots of questions and work hard to challenge my students without any pressure. I hope that they will be excited for their lessons and eager to learn. For a vocal curriculum, I will teach basic vocal warm ups that will improve range, tone musicality. We will work on breathing exercises and relaxation techniques as well as performance etiquette and acting (the story behind the story) and the expression of the story. As a teacher, my experience started mainly during my college days. I taught a wide variety of ages starting at 6 years old all the way to 17 year olds. I really started teaching in earnest during the summer of 2012 where I took a job in Michigan as a Piano Teacher Camp Counselor.
