My experience teaching started in college. I was lucky enough to be elected the Music Director of an all male a cappella group at Missouri State and much of my time was spent teaching vocal techniques, musicianship, and arranging to the group as well as individually. At this time, I was also the tenor section leader for the Missouri State Concert Chorale under the direction of Dr. Guy Webb. After college, I pursued a teaching career in Birmingham, AL where I taught private voice and piano lessons to 30-40 students a week as well as coaching group classes and rock bands for competition. I graduated from the University of Louisville with a degree in Music performance, emphasis in voice. During that time I was given the opportunities to sing with some wonderful groups including Kentucky Opera Chorus, Cardinal Singers, Early Music Ensemble, and Choral Arts Society. Since moving to Colorado in 2016, I have sang with multiple quartets and ensembles, including St Martin's Chamber Choir, Gaudium Verum, Anima Chamber Ensemble as well as continuing to teach music in an individual and/or choral setting. Students don't learn if they don't feel motivated or enjoy what they are doing. Therefore, I make it a point to set an agenda in each lesson that starts and ends with something fun, and is also predictable so that students know intuitively how to go about their practicing. During each lesson, the student and I set realistic goals for practicing and, despite the popular saying that the more time you spend practicing, the more effective your practice is, I have learned from many students that each student practices and learns from practicing in their own way. Using a tried-and-true approach, I like to teach each student the basics of musicianship in a step-by-step method. Each new concept builds on the previous one. Each student learns a bit differently, that is the wonderful thing about being an individual! Nothing is more rewarding than seeing one of my students get really excited about reaching their goals. I consistently encourage students by giving them positive feedback about the progress they are making. I also help them push themselves to become better singers by being an inspiration and a mentor for them throughout their journey. I do feel that music is a journey, not a destination. I inspire my students to develop an appreciation for music that lasts their entire lives, and so my instruction is tailored to the individual no matter where they are on their journey. Read More

I graduated from Ole Miss in 2007 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism with minors in both Music and English and I graduated again in 2012 with a Master of Arts degree in Teaching English as a Second Language with a subfield in Music.
