For beginners who are children, I typically use Faber and Faber's Piano Adventures. One of my biggest goals while teaching is to provide my students with a well-rounded music education. From my experience, the Piano Adventures series aligns well this goal while providing engaging, fun material for children. After completing a series of method books, I start to focus on classical repertoire. As a performing singer I have been very fortunate to have performed in many of the great concert halls of the world, including Carnegie Hall, Avery Fischer Hall, Lincoln Centre, The Barbican and the Royal Albert Hall in London. I have also sung Countertenor roles with many opera companies in the USA and the UK. For older or more intermediate students, I recommend Faber Faber's Piano Adventures, which incorporates not only interesting musical selections, but also introduces music theory and analysis. For advanced students, I prefer to piece together selected repertoires based on music relevant to their interests; this typically includes a selection of classical and contemporary compositions with some discussion of the pieces' context within a greater scope of music history and theory.
