In a first lesson, I evaluate the student's skill level and discuss what kinds of music we would like to study. After this initial evaluation, I develop a personalized plan which addresses healthy vocal production and practice techniques which address the needs of the student. I tailor my instruction to each student's needs, accounting for various vocal needs, temperaments, and learning styles; therefore, I do not have a generic method. Read More

Students don't learn if they don't feel motivated or enjoy what they are doing. Therefore, I make it a point to set an agenda in each lesson that starts and ends with something fun, and is also predictable so that students know intuitively how to go about their practicing. During each lesson, the student and I set realistic goals for practicing and, despite the popular saying that the more time you spend practicing, the more effective your practice is, I have learned from many students that each student practices and learns from practicing in their own way. My teaching style is based around having fun while learning important techniques. Some students will pick up a technique or a piece of music in one week, while another might struggle with the same piece for a whole month, and that's okay! I will never force a student to move on from something they feel less than great about, and with that ideology, I believe students gain the confidence that is so vital to the creative process of music making. I believe that it is a privilege and an honor to have the opportunity to share in the growth and development of another person's talent and career. I have influenced the careers of many successful singers, actors, and songwriters of various ages and styles, who have have signed big record deals, appeared in major motion pictures and network TV shows like The Tonight Show, Jimmy Kimmel Live, American Idol, the Grammy Awards, Billboard Awards, Dove Awards, American Music Awards, and various shows on Disney Channel, Nickelodeon, WB, and more, and have performed at the Grand Ole Opry in Nashville and on the Broadway stage in NYC. I also teach hour-long group vocal classes seasonally. On average, I teach around 30 lessons a week, mostly 30/45 minute sessions, and several hour long sessions in addition to my group classes. The majority of my instruction takes place over FaceTime/Zoom, or in the student’s home. I just recently moved back to my home of Colorado from New York City. I am now based in Denver, where I am head engineer/producer of my own recording studio, “The Mine.” Many of my longstanding students have continued with me as their teacher via Zoom/Facetime, regardless of me moving or being on tour.
