My teaching style is fun, focused, and efficient. I like to keep the environment positive and encouraging, as that is what helps a student progress the most! When a student first starts lessons, we establish a few goals to accomplish over the semester, such as "become more confident" or, "learn a foreign language piece". With these in mind, I will teach the lessons, pick warm ups, and select repertoire (with the student) accordingly! Read More

I'm a young musician, and I have a strong believe in the importance of all forms of artistic expression. Above all, I understand that music, of all art forms, is integral to social and personal development. I graduated from Loyola University Chicago with a BA in music in vocal performance in 2013, and in 2012, I had the amazing experience of studying under the renowned soprano, Delia Surratt, in Rome. In school, I also completed a theatre minor and was the musical director of my a cappella group, so I am familiar with many styles of singing. Read More

The first lesson is always partly an interview so I can understand exactly what the student's goals are. I typically establish good posture and breathing habits (or bowing and fingering, if violin) first and then move on to essential warm-up exercises. Those exercises then become their regular homework, to hopefully be practiced multiple times a week or if possible, every day. I remind the student of breathing and posture regularly - good habits are the goal! Read More

I use humor and my own experiences to first establish a caring environment in which the student can be comfortable. Once that connection is established, I like to find out the students interests and make sure a personal goal is set that we can achieve together. There has to be something exciting the student can achieve in order to develop self-motivation. I employ a number of tactics to stimulate self-expression and problem solving skills, as independent work and practice is crucial in any musician's journey. Read More

Philosophy on Music- There is imitation and creation, but to truly create one must first learn the established forms before one can break them. Eventually through discipline to these forms, one will see these forms not as absolutes governors, but instead a variety of tools that aid us in our artistic expression and enjoyment. Philosophy as an Educator- To be an effective educator I believe that one must not only create a curriculum and pay attention to the individual needs of their students, but one must also provide an environment that fosters growth. I am currently a fourth year student at DePaul University and I will be going onto my fifth year at the school as I am double majoring in Music Education and Vocal Performance, and double minoring in Psychology and Community Service Studies. I am originally from Ukraine and immigrated to the United States in 2009. My passion for classical singing, and classical music in general, began early in my childhood, as the films I would watch as a child were set to classical music. Read More

I began teaching in college, when I began working with the Actors Training Center, a theatre training program for high school students in Wilmette. Since then, I developed my own studio of voice and piano students and now work at Allegro Music Center in Park Ridge as a piano and voice teacher. Through these experiences, I have learned about the importance of regular practice for new student. I try to listen closely to students' goals and interests to create a relationship that is mutually beneficial. Read More
