I began teaching 17 years ago while completing my Master of Arts degree in Voice Performance.I have passion for teaching students of all ages the fundamentals of singing. These include breathing, posture, and mouth position.These fundamentals stand students in good stead to sing whatever style they choose for the rest of their lives. Helping someone learn how to open up their voice and sing is a joyful experience. Every lesson includes a warm-up for the voice and a series of breathing and vocal exercises. that build skills and technique. The time spent on each part of the lesson varies from student to student to help them make progress. For children, I do not use books or complicate bibliography to teach. I encourage children to discover music through their own curiosity. Using historical imagery and references of the natural world that surrounds us, is very effective way to help children understand music. Art contains emotion and intellect, so, my intention is that the kids explore that knowledge in a fun and joyful way. For adults, the teaching process is more focus to expand their abilities. I began teaching music in high school, a friend coworker had a son that wanted to learn trumpet and it was a fun way to make money. As I continued into college, I learned that I was able to give lessons to members of the band or choir as an employee to the Adrian College Academic Services Department and I was happy to do so. In addition to Adrian College students, I also gave lessons to local high schoolers (mostly tuba players) and many where featured and scored well in state Solo and Ensemble exhibitions. Read More
