I have been described by more than one student and several parents who have observed lessons with me as “energetically laid-back”. I have a great passion for music, and it comes through in the excitement I share with my students, with the hope that it inspires them to seek greatness for themselves in all aspects of their lives. We will set goals together, track their progress and they will feel challenged and pushed at times, but empowered with the knowledge that anything can be overcome with patience, persistence, and practice. Hi! My name is Lauren and I recently moved back to San Antonio after spending 10 years in NYC as a professional musical theater performer. Over the past few years, I've had the privilege of performing all over the country in some of my favorite shows! When I was not on stage, I worked at a reputable music school in Maplewood, NJ called Performers Theater Workshop. Over the four years I worked there, I had many students make their Broadway Debut! I started teaching piano and voice lessons quite recently within the last year. I have had the rewarding experience of watching these young people learn and grow and discover more of their self confidence in performance as well as in life. I think a key point for any teacher is to be patient. The more relaxed you are the more at ease your students will be. It is important to be patient with yourself as the teacher in addition to being very patient with the student. Read More

Each student progresses at their own pace; therefore, I don't impose "deadlines" as to when a student should advance to the next level. A lot of that comes from the individual's motivation and reason for learning the instrument. During a lesson, I go over concepts in a given piece, help discover where more difficult passages will be, and show the student the techniques needed to master those elements. The main part of the lesson, however, is on the STUDENT...and by that I mean PRACTICE to prepare for the next week's progression. Read More

It is important to me that I provide a warm, comfortable environment for all my students. I strive to meet the student where they are, set goals, and make plans to achieve them. Voice in particular is a difficult thing to learn, since the mechanisms are internal and difficult to see as well as hard to control directly. That is why many teachers speak through visualization and analogy. I make every effort to explain the science behind the singing process, but I also use a variety of teaching approaches that have proven to be effective. Read More
Instruments: Voice
My teaching style focuses on student-lead learning, where I will present a technique and then have the student analyze for themselves the effect it has on their vocal mechanism. The goal of training is to produce smart singers; what is the point of singing one song well if you can't apply the same techniques to another? Through problem-solving out loud, my students quickly learn to analyze their own performances and apply corrections on a consistent, active basis. Read More
