I began studying viola when I was 7 and learned through the Suzuki Method.  By the time I was in high school I was a teacher assistant at the Farmington Summer Suzuki String Academy where I taught private and group lessons for young students.  During that time I also was learning guitar and giving lessons to children in my neighborhood. For all of my students, I let them pick a song (vocal) or piece (violin) that they would like to sing or play. This way I can analyze what level they are on. For my voice students, I start with vocal warm-up exercises of the different vowels. It helps me to understand their range as well as tone of voice.
