Early on (both in the teaching relationship and in each lesson) one must assess where the student is, as to technical and musical growth, and with the music at hand. Then one finds, models, explains and encourages the next steps the student can achieve. I try to focus the lessons on the individual student. I use faber books as my main method, but also incorporate a lot of sheet music for my students' different repertoires. I have taught many classes on music fundamentals and theory.  I am also very knowledgeable about Alexander technique - a technique used to help those who suffer from performance anxiety. I am also well versed in music therapy and have used it to help people with mental disorders and physical pain achieve some level of relief. Read More

I first began teaching in high school, where I would tutor the younger middle school students. As my education progressed, so did my teaching experience. I attended American University, where I received my bachelor's degree in music performance, and then continued to study at Northwestern University, where I received my master's degree. I began teaching lessons in college, but grew my studio while I was preparing for grad school auditions from 2010-2012. Most of my students at that time were beginner piano lessons and I love to teach young children. I also greatly enjoy teaching children with autism. I have had success in combining my music education and music therapy skills to help students accomplish musical goals while also addressing behavioral goals such as increasing verbal or nonverbal communication.
