My aspirations as a violin instructor are to enable students to identify, understand, and assess challenges they contend to search for possible solutions. I am a proponent of self-directed learning, and intentionally create situations in class that allow the students to learn through the unconventional approach. I also encourage students to come up with their own exercises and possible solutions for any challenge they encounter. I'm a passionate, friendly, and motivated instructor who loves working with children and adults of all ages. I love to be able to share my love of music, both through performing and through teaching. I received my master's degree from Northwestern University and since then, I have moved to the Philadelphia area, where I teach through a variety of programs, including Musicopia, the Philadelphia Youth Orchestras, the Music School of Delaware, and the Darlington Arts Center. The student may need help working on music from school so sometimes that becomes the priority. Other times, the student is interested in learning a song for their own enjoyment, and that will guide the direction of the lesson. In a typical lesson I will try to incorporate a little of all these things where applicable. My teaching style is defined by a combination of high standards, understanding, nurture and patience. I will set realistic goals for each student based on his/her abilities. I will encourage and try new ways to explain or demonstrate a skill that the student is having difficulty with and I will be extremely enthusiastic about their accomplishments. However, I will assertively make it known if the student shows that they have not been practicing in a supportive way. Read More
