I'm a violin teacher with over 10 years of experience. I currently teach Violin at two elementary Chicago Public Schools; and have taught lessons through the Chicago Park District, After School Matters and Illinois Arts Council programs. As a violinist I've worked with Andrea Bocelli, Marc Anthony, Jennifer Lopez and Donna Summers. For 10 years was first violin and soloist of the Puerto Rico Philharmonic Orchestra. For beginning students I believe it's important for them to begin playing the first day. I get the students to make their first sound and teach the technique and theory as they learn their instrument. For beginning voice students I use the same method, but I like to use a song that the student knows. For students with experience I like to have them play or sing something they know and I evaluate that and I will work with them on that song and build their technique. Read More

My teaching experience dates back to my college days, as I began teaching private lessons part time 6 years ago, and have been consistently teaching students for the last 5 years. Encouraging regular practice on a consistent schedule is one of the key points I like to emphasize for younger students, as it tends to help the student progress and gain a passion for the instrument. I started violin at the age of 10 in the Homewood public school system and it has been with me ever since. I am now an Indiana University Jacobs School of Music Alumn and have a Bachelor's in Music with a degree in Violin Performance. I studied all four years with Mimi Zweig and worked for a year at the Fairview Elementary School as a part of the Violin Project. I encourage a parent/guardian to be involved in helping students build a practice pattern. My philosophy is that students need to practice every day, even if its only 5-10 minutes they have time for. Practicing a little bit each day is more effective than cramming practice into the day before the lesson. Suzuki not only incorporates, but makes it a necessity to be able to sight read, learn by ear (listening followed by playing), and understand the theory behind the piece.
