My method is very flexible and student specific. Everyone learns slightly differently and has their own unique strengths. In general, I have a "sound before sight" method. Students learn music thoroughly, aurally and theoretically before trying to read it off the page. Imagine trying to learn a language by being handed a book. We then use your innate understanding of the music to inform your technique and the way you approach the instrument. Read More

I have taught nearly every instrument in a standard orchestra. I have taught singing, guitars and such, music theory composing and sight singing as well as sight reading and music history. It is always essential that the student is excited about the genre(s) we use in learning music. Yes if music is not fun then it is worthless. That being said fun is a many splendor thing. I started teaching guitar in my teens. Read More

Hi there! I'm a dedicated and passionate violinist, teacher and all-around music enjoyer living in the Rochester area. I currently hold a Bachelor of Arts in Music Education from SUNY Fredonia and have enjoyed a 10-year career so far teaching in classrooms and in the studio. Although my main job is now editing, I am happiest when playing in ensembles. Some high points were performing onstage with Yo Yo Ma with the Fredonia College Symphony Orchestra and playing an entertainment venue with a ukulele star from one of French Polynesia's preeminent folk groups. In 2010, I graduated with my degrees in Music Education and Applied Voice from Indiana Wesleyan University. During my undergraduate experience I had opportunities to perform throughout Europe, to hold the honor of student conductor of the Indiana Wesleyan University Chorale, to choregoraph stage productions including multiple operas and musicals and to premier the lead role in a new musical, Where Fortunes Lie. I enjoy arranging solo pieces for violin and have, in the past, composed and performed in a pop style. I currently perform in a guitar-violin duo and write/sing/play for a contemporary music project. I am very invested in each student's success, and in finding an inspiring way to achieve it. I believe strongly in avoiding tension and burn-out, and instead seek to find sustainable and productive avenues through which to become not only an excellent technician, but a superior artist. Just like any other skill or passion, it is most fundamental to instill a sense of awareness and problem-solving. Whatever stage the student is in, I believe in teaching methods that help break down and conquer difficulties. Instead of treating music/violin playing like a mindless and repetitive process, I want to pass on the passion and excitement that has been taught to me. Combining the inherent connection to music that we all possess with the tools to exercise discipline and dedication to a craft are the keys to success in my opinion. Read More
