For violin and viola, I base my beginning instruction in the Suzuki Method and philosophy. The latter refers to the concept that ANY human being can learn music provided the right environment is created to facilitate the learning. I am a firm believer of this philosophy. As students get more advanced, I incorporate Music Reading (theory) as well as repertoire outside of the Suzuki method. I also make sure the students and their families are participating- or willing to look into it- of activities outside of the lessons that enhance the musical development and enjoyment: joining a choir or an orchestra, attending concerts, participating in recitals with other students, etc. For voice and piano students, I combine several methods according to the students needs. Voice students in particular would benefit from my experiences growing up as a singer since very young (from boy soprano to grown-up baritone). The development I went through allowed me to experience for myself a vast repertoire, which is the basis  of what I teach in my lessons.

For beginning students who are children, I typically begin by introducing them to the various parts of the instrument, along with the basics of technique and position. New notes and concepts would be introduced through learning familiar songs and pieces. All parents are encouraged to attend their child's violin lessons so that they can aid practice sessions. For adults, I try to find out what the student is most interested in learning, and devise a plan with the student accordingly in order to keep the lessons engaging and fun.

I have been teaching both in the public school system and privately over the last four years.  Through teaching both string and wind instrumental lessons and ensembles during my time in the Flemington and Hopewell school districts, as well as my own private students I have found that trying to find a connection to the love of music I have and an interest the student already has there is a pathway through practice, and dedication to creating some really wonderful moments for that student.

It is important that you select as many days and the widest window of start times for each day as possible. That will help us make a match with one of our teachers.
