I find that the key to enjoyable lessons is to discover just the right sort of pieces a student likes to play. No one likes having to practice something they think is boring. It is with this in mind that I also incorporate games and flash cards and activities involving action for the little ones who can't sit long on a piano bench. I make sure we use ALL the keys of a piano from one end to the other, and the black ones too. Read More

I use multiples methods. One of them is the Susuki method. I consider that is a good method for beginners with a lot of techniques exercises and also includes pieces. For me it is essential that a student learn first all the techniques exercises and then start to create music. After that I started to teach how to respect the essential aspects in a piece: the fingering, the bowing, the dynamics, the tempo and others. Read More

A native of Florida, I recently graduated from the University of South Florida in Tampa under the tutelage of Scott Kluksdahl, an internationally renowned cellist and pedagogue. My other primary cello teachers include Loran Stephenson (National Symphony Orchestra), Helga Winold (Indiana University) and John Kaboff (Arlington, VA). I have participated in masterclasses with David Requiro and the Baumer String Quartet, Noreen-Cassidy Polera, Rhonda Rider, Jan Müller-Szeraws, Joshua Gordon, Carol Ou, Rupert Thompson, Robert Jesselson, Ross Harbaugh, Rebecca Penneys and Norman Fischer. In addition, I play & teach old time fiddle tunes like Arkansas Traveler, Soldier's Joy, & Ragtime Annie, and Bluegrass songs/instrumentals. I also teach a variety of just nice, popular songs like Auld Land Syne. America the Beautiful, Jingle Bells, & You Are My Sunshine. All of this includes keys, chords, scales, and theory. One IMPORTANT & UNIQUE feature of my lessons is my 4 color CHARTS which ever student can have. They are not necessary for the learning process, but they make it easy to relearn song/tunes much later if the musician has forgotten them. Read More

For violin, viola, cello and bass, I teach the Suzuki method. The Suzuki method is based strongly on memory and takes a systematic approach to introducing music of increasing difficulty. For classical guitar, I start off with the Frederick Noad system, "Solo Guitar Playing", and scales. As skill level increases, I assign more etudes and standard guitar repertoire. For acoustic guitar, I teach almost exclusively finger-picking. I teach the same high standard skills for acoustic guitar that I teach for classical, but concentrate on masterpieces of the repertoire. Read More

First of all, thank you for taking the time to look at my profile! I know you have many choices when it comes to string instructors in the area, so I appreciate your time to find out a little about me. After earning an AA in Music from HCC in 2011, I transferred to the University of South Florida, where I studied music education and orchestral conducting. I graduated from USF with my BA in Music Studies in 2013. Read More

For beginning students, I like to start from Essential elements, Suzuki 1, or Piano Adventures. Students will also likely have a theory workbook or worksheets that match the level of their current repertoire. Intermediate students, we will start using a program called smart music that plays the accompaniment for pieces that we are working on. This will really help develop a great internal sense of rhythm and help students recognize immediately when something needs correcting. Read More
