I began teaching private violin and viola lessons in 2012, and I greatly enjoy working with my students. They have ranged in age from 3 1/2 to adult, and each one has been unique. After beginning lessons with my first student, teaching a semester of music theory, and teaching a summer camp, I became interested in Suzuki methodology and pedagogy. I find that for younger students especially, this method allows for more parent involvement at an age when many parents want to be more involved, and many children equally appreciate this involvement. Without the knowledge of the basics a student would not be able to advance further. In my lessons. I make sure that I focus on the weak sides of my students rather than the strong. For instance, if it is an orchestra rehearsal I practice the excerpts that are the most challenging first and then move on to the simpler sections. I teach mainly out of the string builder series. After the student shows some progress I will introduce some solo pieces and maybe some studies to practice. My method really revolves around the student since everyone advances at their own pace. Some other method books could be Kreutzer, Sevcik, and wohlfhart.
